Thanks for those, Possible.
Baptisms are at a dead crawl compared to the old days. How things have changed.
Well, then, they need to increase their birth rate and get members the old fashioned way. Then baptize 'em at 6 (there are no less than 2 yearbook experiences that recount such early ones), then refuse admittance* to any less than 12 years old even when accompanying their parents.

Amen to that, Kurt. Failing human memory and denial are some of the biggest enemies to truth. Iran and others are doing their best to discount the Holocaust. "It never happened". Modern JWs, many of them from ignorance since they came in later, are doing exactly the same. "1975 is just an apostate thing". The old-timers, of course, do nothing to remind them (and themselves) of that horrible period of empty claims. If it weren't for the internet and the Watchtower Library CD, Watchtower would do their darndest to squelch it. Len

Hi Possible,
Thanks for posting that incredible bank of data. While I'm on budgeted bandwidth I can't browse (especially audio and video files) as much as others who have no limits. I can imagine that there may be a few "smoking guns" of audio evidence during the years preceding 1975 -- where district overseers and others went beyond their scripts during their discourses.
I hope if someone finds these they will post some snippet transcripts.

A few days ago I received my Hallmark Card Studio 2011 and it seemed to work well after I configured the 2 sided printing. I printed a few birthday cards (please don't tell the elders) for Judy's friends.
Today, I've spent half the day trying to print her birthday card, created yesterday. Nothing but trouble. It seems to have forgotten how to instruct me to put the card stock back in the printer after side 1, it cobbled a piece of clip art (a rose) amongst a piece of text on the front page, and now it's forgotten completely the last 3 of 4 sides of the card. They're blank although the thumbnails look correct. (I do have a backup on another disk.
So Hallmark is getting this piece of junk back. And I avoided their 2012 version because of bad reviews, I should've known better to order an older version.
So -- what do you use?

OutsmartTheSystem, What a great parallel -- the typical pyramid scheme. Most of it fits and that is scary.
Wishi, welcome to our fine group. It sounds like you're off to a good start. Be patient with yourself. As you expressed yourself, your words took me back to my same feelings and aprehensions -- 34 years ago. It will get better.

My critical thoughts about Paul
by I Want to Believe inso this is an area of thought i had before even before i fully took the apostate plunge.
i started noticing that almost everything about the congregation pointed back to paul.. "do not forsake the gathering of yourselves together.
" not jesus' words.

Hi IWTB,
I see what you mean. You may find the following from WIKI interesting, "Pauline Christianity is a term used to refer to the Christianity associated with the beliefs and doctrines espoused by Paul of Tarsus through his writings ."
A few weeks ago when the country (USA) was wild with Tebowing, I made critical mention of how his public display of his faith turns off many people, including me, and what part of Jesus' words about going into a closet and praying does Tebow and people like him not get? Yes, she says, but Paul's words say yada yada yada. Then I say, so the founder of Christianity is trumped by one of his followers? End of discussion.
How about the shunning that JWs and other fundies use? All Pauline based, "not even eating with such a person". Years ago when I asked one of the other elders why we don't shun all DFd ones, including family members (recall, Paul makes no distinction), he made the point that it would be going a bit too far -- that is, to shun family. I then said, so Watchtower trumps writings in the Bible? The discussion changed.
We could go on and on.

It can not hurt to tell her you studied , that way she will know you understand a bit more about her . Troubled Mind
I believe that to be true. I use that expression whenever I talk to someone I learn to be a JW. Invariably they then ask, "Oh -- may I ask why you quit studying?"
The door is now open.
You: "This link right here presented some questions that my teacher simply couldn't deal with." (proceed to hand her a small slip of paper with the internet link goo.gl/TkcHt). Yes, it's that short and you don't need the HTTP:// prefix. If she slips it into her purse you won't know whether or not she actually checks it out -- but you've planted the seed.
It would be a good idea to browse it yourself first so that you can honestly endorse it. It's a link to THE GREAT WATCHTOWER CONTRADICTION, an 11 minute read that is designed for ones who have begun studying and are considering the Watchtower religion. If your new friend happens to check it out for herself it will probably make her very uncomfortable with some things she has believed all her Watchtower life.
Good luck.
